Three must-try Vietnamese food
Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam in general are known for the tasty food and original flavour. Forget everything you know about Vietnamese food and discover with Rent Me Motorbike Saigon our Vietnam team selection of the best meal you have to try.
1. Bánh Xèo - Vietnamese pancake
Yellow colour, crispy and amazing is the thing that describe Bánh Xèo the most. The first look of Bánh Xèo will give you the imagination of a “Tacos” from Mexico.
Wrapper’s made from rice flour, the topping inside is usually a mix of shrimps, boiled pork, bean sprout, green beans, spring onions.
Not like the other foods which are tried by chopstick, this time you will enjoy it by our bare hands.
It has 2 different ways to eat Bánh Xèo but here is the originals one: First, take the rice paper cake, keep the other hand in a bowl of water and spread out the water on the rice paper cake to make it soft. Second, put the basil, lettuce and Vietnamese perilla in the rice paper then put the Bánh Xèo on the top of that. Third, using your both thumbs to tight all of the things inside roll it to make it looks like spring rolls.
Don’t rush, you still have one last thing to do before enjoying the roll. Fish sauce, of course, not wrong when we say it’s a soul of Vietnamese food. The Bánh Xèo, good or not, will always be better with a good fish sauce. Deep the roll into a fish sauce and enjoy a piece.
I can say for sure after the first bite, you will feel the crunchy break off inside your mouth, the sweetness, salty and sour taste from the fish sauce is the part enhancing the flavour.
2. Bún Thịt Nướng - Fresh noodles with Grilled pork
Too boring with some local Vietnamese foods. Today, we are back with the things that I make sure you will have to say “ Amazing” for the first taste.
Bún is fresh noodle produce of rice, it has a little bit sticky, that's really bland, a little sour.
Pork is marinated before, bringing a delicious taste to the meat.
Definition of Bún Thịt Nướng, is simple :fresh noodle, grilled pork, peanuts on the top, some mixed vegetables (Vietnamese perilla, lettuce, cucumber are cut to small slides), fried spring rolls.
Enjoying part, the best part we wait. I say “ fish sauce is a soul of Vietnamese food”, I prove it again with this amazing meal: Bún Thịt Nướng cannot be Bún Thịt Nướng without its fish sauce.
Spread out fish sauce on the top of Bún Thịt Nướng, and mix everything to make sure it’s dip with the fish sauce.
The first bite is the sweet coming from fish sauce and grill pork. Fresh noodles balance the taste of fish sauce to make the flavour lighter. Spring rolls with crispy wrapper dipped in the fish sauce added a crunchy touch to the taste.
3. Cơm Tấm - Vietnamese Grilled Pork chop with Broken rice
If you have to bet on one of the best dishes in HCMC, you should definitely do it on Cơm Tấm. Appeared at the end of the 19th century, Cơm Tấm is a fusion between American and Vietnamese food. Since that time to nowadays, Cơm Tấm gradually becomes one of the commonest street food in Vietnam.
To have broken rice it need to cross a big process: Passing brown rice to white rice is possible by crashing the brown rice skin. During this process, the rice can be broken and will be kept as broken rice to make Cơm Tấm. (If the rice is not broken, it will be use as white rice)
Pork’s dipped in the mixed sauce including sugar, salt and fish sauce before being grilled.
One of the important parts of a Com Tam is the fried eggs. Without it, you will definitely find it boring.
Chả-Chả Trứng paste included, egg, crab, minced pork, vermicelli. Steaming out of water.
Enjoying part: Put the fish sauce on the top and spread out to make it mix together. You should use a spoon to cut the piece of pork, egg, egg paste and try it together to have a good experience.
